Mark Stell, Managing Partner

It wasn’t until opening Portland Roasting in 1996 that Stell was introduced to the grower component of the coffee business, and once he began his travels to coffee-producing countries, he developed a deep appreciation for the growers and their commitment and love of the land. Mark’s leadership has earned the company local and national recognition for its business achievements and sustainability initiatives, and for five years running, Portland Roasting was recognized as one of Portland’s fastest growing private companies by Portland Business Journal. When not traveling or managing his team, he retreats with family to his cabin in the shadow of Mt. Adams and tries to sneak in a fly fishing trip here and there.


Paul Gilles, Vice President of Operations

Lawyer turned entrepreneur, Paul joined Portland Roasting after opening a specialty coffee chain in Fukuoka, Japan – the first of its kind in that city. As co-owner of Rosarian Coffee Company and president of East Meets West Company, he gained a thorough understanding of Japanese business and social practices and became fluent in conversational Japanese. Paul’s role as Vice President of Operations allows him to oversee production, customer service, human resources, risk management, international business development and general administration duties at PRC.

Nathanael May — Although his first love is brewed coffee, and the passel of extraction methods available, Nathanael has been known to dabble in the fine art of espresso as well. He finds joy in showing other people new ways to try the same coffee.

Emily Bryant — Emily is a graduate of the Western  Culinary Institute and focuses on Food Service of America accounts and unique projects when she’s not making yummy goodies.

Martin Barrett — From the old country of Scotland, Martin is a sales dynamo who loves playing shuffleboard and hanging out at independent cafes.
